Zula the Abssyinian Kitten

— According to “When Cats Reigned Like Kings: On the Trail of the Sacred Cats”, “By far the most believable story about the popular Aby is that the first cat came from Abyssinia, commonly known today as Ethiopia, and was brought home, probably about 1868, by one of the British soldiers stationed there.
The kitten was named Zula and she became the grandmama of all the Abys. In the January 27, 1872, Harper’s Weekly one finds the first mention of the Abssyinian, when the third prize in the December 1891 Crystal Palace show-the first cat show! was awarded to an Abyssinian cat. “
