On February 1 1962, the Associated Press reported that the U.S. Navy seaplane USS Orca had been converted at a cost of 3 million dollars into a state vessel for the Ethiopia Navy. Renamed the HMS Ethiopia, it was deliever to Prince Alexandar Desta at the San Francisco Naval Ship yard. It reported that ship will be commanded by Noreigian Capt. Rolf Henningsen, and will join six other ships given to the Ethiopian Navy under the U.S. Mutual assistance program.
