Celebrating Ethiopia During World Space Week – Oct 6-10
— For World Space Week I will celebrate Ethiopia and her relationship to the subject of astronomy and anything space-related for World Space Week. Considered one of the greatest acheivements in human history was the Apollo 11 mission that took three Americans to the moon with its launch on July 16 and its lunar landing on July 20th. Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie was among the many dignitaries to be present for that historic lift off from Earth. The Associated Press reported that the Emperor gave his best wishes to the crew when he spoke to them through a telephone hookup.
(This photograph was taken on July 15th at the Kennedy Space Center during a briefing. Emperor Haile selassie was a humble man in his last years, showing no hesittation to ask questions like a curious small boy.)
