A steamship called Abyssinia

On this date on May 24, 1870, the steamship Abyssinia departed on its maiden voyage from Liverpool, England to Queenstown,New York. The steamship would play a vital role in bringing immigrants to the New World.
The SS Abyssinia’s fate was sealed on December 18, 1891, when it was destroyed en route to England, in a mid-Atlantic by fire. The passengers all escaped safely before the ship sank. The fire was believed to have to have started in the cargo of cotton.
